Day of memory and grief

On June 22, 1941, the troops of fascist Germany crossed the border of the Soviet Union ... From that moment the Great Patriotic War began. It lasted several hard years, and in spite of everything our country won a victory! On this day, memorable events take place throughout the country. Memorial events and ceremonial laying of flowers at iconic places took place in St. Petersburg.

June 22 at 3:45 in the Palace Square lit 1,418 candles in memory of each of the days of the battle for the country. After the rally, participants launched white doves into the sky ─ a symbol of world peace.

At the same time on the Fontanka citizens took part in the action “River of Memory”, launching thousands of paper ships with words of gratitude to the defenders of our country.
